Cait Sith from Final Fantasy 7

Cait Sith
"Hey you!! What're you lookin' so down for!? How 'bout it? Want me to read your fortune!? A bright future! A happy future! Oh, but don't hold it against me if it's not a great prediction! Oh, so sorry! I'm a fortune telling machine. The name's Cait Sith."

A new pattern, and with good timing as well.  I'm sure anyone who follows me who is also a fan of the RPG Final Fantasy 7 is well awhear of the remake.  So, with that on the horizon, as well as an art trade I got to do, Cait Sith is here!  Now, I'm gonna just get on with the pattern.

Materials
WW yarn in black, white, red, brown, pink, and golden yellow(I used Red Heart Super Saver in Black, White, Cherry Red, Coffee, Pedal Pink, and Gold)
G hook
Felt scraps in pink, red, white, and black (opitional, red fabric paint in place of red felt)
Black pipe cleaner
Stuffing
Optional: Pet slicker brush

(Note: This pattern was made with joined, chained rounds, is a bit coplicated in places, and is untested by other crochet artists.)

Sew to top of head, using pictures to help with placement.

Bangs (with black)
Yes, Cait has bangs.  Well, at least his Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus designs do.  Since I'm bacing this off of the DoC design, Cait gets bangs.

Rnd 13: (sc, dec) around (10) join
F/O with a long tail, stuff VERY lightly, if at all.  Slide down the arm, with Rnd 1 facing down, to where the white meets black.  This will be snug as hell!  That's a good thing!  Using the long tail, sew bottom of the cuff to the arm, at or at the round under the colour change.  Now, with the top of the cuff, play around with how it lies to see how you like it, then sew in place with the other tail.  Once the cuffs are on, sew the arms to the body at about round 37.  Go ahead and weave in any ends you might have.

Tail (starting with white)
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6)
Rnd 2: (sc, inc) around (9)
Rnd 3: (sc 2, inc) around (12)
Rnd 4 - 10: sc even (12) Change to black at the end of round 10
Rnd 11 - 40: sc even (12) stuff as you go.
F/O with a long tail.  Brush the hell out of the first 5 or so rounds of the tail to get the "bushy" look, if you want that.  You don't have to do this, if you don't want to, as this just helps with the overall look of the doll.
Sew tail to back of the body roughly between rounds 9 and 12.

Feet and Legs (starting with brown, make two)
Okay, if you've made my Wilt pattern, you'll be fimialer with how the feet are done!  Cait's feet are just smaller.  The legs might make you want to cry, though.
Top of Foot (with brown, make two)
Row 1: 6 sc in magic ring (6) ch 1, turn
Row 2: sc across (6) ch 1, turn
Row 3: (inc, sc) across (9) ch 1, turn

Do not finish off!  Match up the bottom of the foot with the top, with the bottom facing you.  Ch 1, sc the two pieces together, placing three sc in the tip/toe of the foot.  Stuff foot firmly, shaping as you do.
Row 17: Ch 1, sc across in the back loops of 4 sc of the bottom of foot, and both loops of the 6 sc of the top of the foot (10)  You're working in rounds now.
Rnd 18: through both loops all the way around, sc even(10)
Rnd 19 - 21: sc even (10)  You may have to do a sew stitches, pinning the ankle to the foot to help it hold it's shape.  F/O brown.
Rnd 22: in back loops only this rnd, join black at the side of foot(toe should be facing your right), sc even (10)  I know it seems a bit odd to do this, but you'll need that round of free loops later.  Leave them.  You are now making the leg.  Be ready to cry.  This is your only warning.
Rnd 23 - 27: sc even (10)  Stuff as you go.  After round 27, you'll be working in rows again
Row 28: sc 6, ch 1, turn
Row 29: sc, dec, dec, sc (4) ch 1, turn

Rnd 3 - 4: sc even (20)

Row 25 - 26: sc across (36) ch 1, turn
F/O, weave in all but your starting tail from the Top Part of the Cape.

To put the Cape together
Step 1) Wrap the cape around the shoulders of your Cait, and, using the starting tail, sew the cape together.
Step 2) Still using your starting tail, sew Tie Part A over where you sewed the cape together.  Weave in ends.
Step 3) Slip Tie Part B under where you sewed Tie Part A.  Sew the ends together, weave in ends, then rotate Tie Part B until the nicer looking bit is facing out.

Last detials!
Decide if you want Cait to have his mouth open or shut.  If you want it open, you need the pink and red felt, or red fabric paint.
Cut out the mouth shape from the pink felt, and either cut the darker part of the mouth shape out of the red felt, or paint that shape onto the pink felt with the red fabric paint.
Cut out a little fat triangle of black felt for the nose, and two tiny triangles of white felt for the fangs/teeth if you want an open mouth.
Glue on all felt pieces where they need to go.
Cut your pipe cleaner in half, and add those to the face, using pictures to help with placement.
With either some extra black yarn, or some black fabric paint, give Cait his little closed kitty eyes.

    1. Glad you liked my pattern! If you wouldn't mind, may I see your finished Cait Sith? I adore seeing what people make with my patterns.
